The mill was described as the largest and best in western Summit County. Heller also ran a second mill east of Ghent and owned that property until at least 1891.","narrative":"This tall, wood frame farmhouse at 3891 Granger Road in Ghent, Bath Township, dates to about 1870. It has a thin two-story gabled block with a one-story wing at the side and an L-shaped plan. The walls are clapboard over a foundation of coursed ashlar stone, and the roof is gabled and shingled. A shed-roof porch on the side has turned posts, carved brackets, a balustered railing and saw-tooth vertical siding, plus double entrances beside a tall window. The house sits about 30 feet from a quiet country road in hilly, thickly wooded country. Its significance comes from Edward Heller, who grew up working at his father's mill, moved to Bath in 1870 and bought the Ghent Mills in 1871. That saw and grist mill, powered by steam and water, stood across the street on Yellow Creek and was considered the largest and best in western Summit County. It handled both custom and merchant work. Heller also operated another mill east of Ghent.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Farmhouse Vernacular","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good exterior condition and used as a residence; the form notes no preservation work underway and no endangerment.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.535268-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79002798.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002798/c7c5611863-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002798/c7c5611863-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EDWARD_HELLER_RESIDENCE,_SUMMIT_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986254","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138715316"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/summit-county/heller-edward-residence-79002798/"}
