Dated to about 1855-1860, it is a 2 1/2-story central-hall farmhouse on a coursed limestone foundation, with a gable roof of slate and tin. The slate is laid in an imbricated pattern. Details include a gable over the front door with lap siding, small pointed-arch shuttered openings in the gable ends, internal end chimneys with corbelled caps, limestone lintels and sills, nine-over-nine windows and a dentilled cornice. A classical frontispiece frames the entrance, though it may not be original. Additions of frame and brick extend to the rear. The house sits on a knoll with a large lawn encircled by stone fences, and two stone outbuildings stand nearby. The survey ties the property to the local Dun family, noting a grandson of Walter Dun who owned much land. It remains a dwelling in excellent exterior condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Central hall (Ohio farmhouse)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as in use as a dwelling, with exterior condition rated excellent; the house has been painted white and rear additions are noted.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.920919-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79002691.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002691/56e978cda3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002691/56e978cda3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Wdzinc","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Dun_Homestead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Wdzinc</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Dun_Homestead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985284","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138318588"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/dun-john-homestead-79002691/"}
