It is also tied to Thomas Bull, a stonemason and manager of Warwick Furnace who served in the Revolutionary Army and in the state assembly.","narrative":"Stone house in Elverson, Chester County, built in three sections between about 1715 and the late 1790s. The oldest section has a Dutch door, a bee-hive bake oven and a circular stair around an interior chimney. A first addition extended the south facade, and a larger three-bay addition of about 1783-1796, built by Thomas Bull, a stonemason who managed Warwick Furnace, added a central hall and stairway and a doorway with a semicircular fanlight and Doric pilasters. Bull purchased 515 acres in 1783, and the 1798 Chester County glass tax records the dimensions of the house, which match the present building. The house is valued as an unusual, little-altered example of Late Georgian-Early Federal design in the area. Bull also served in the Continental Army, sat in the 1789-90 state constitutional conventions, and represented Chester and Delaware Counties in the state assembly from 1793 to 1801.","period_of_significance":"c. 1715-1796","architect_builder":"Thomas Bull (builder/mason)","architectural_style":"Late Georgian-Early Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Not occupied since 1942; changes due to vacancy and neglect.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:29.946855-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/79002198.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002198/111af35290-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79002198/111af35290-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tom_Bull_House_Chesco.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tom_Bull_House_Chesco.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71995453","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Bull_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7788017"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/chester-county/bull-thomas-house-79002198/"}
