The house combines Gothic Revival features with a Greek Revival style entrance, likely reflecting the newness of the Gothic Revival in Ohio in the 1850s. The house and barn appear in an 1875 county atlas much as they look today.","narrative":"Lynnwood Farm lies about two miles south of Johnstown in Monroe Township, Licking County, Ohio. The farmstead includes a two-story Gothic Revival house, a large bank barn, a corn crib and two small sheds. The wood frame house has horizontal siding, a stone foundation, a slate intersecting gable roof, decorative bargeboards and a porch with heavy woodwork and ornamental iron cresting. Its centered entrance, with transom, sidelights and pilasters, reflects Greek Revival style, a mix the nomination links to the Gothic Revival being new in Ohio in the 1850s. Joel Philbrick, a prominent Monroe Township farmer and native of Grafton, New Hampshire who settled in Licking County in 1817, built the house and barn around 1850-1855. An 1875 county atlas shows the house and barn as a prosperous farm, much as they appear now. The property was listed for its Gothic Revival architecture and its well preserved nineteenth century farm setting.","period_of_significance":"c. 1850-1855","architect_builder":"Joel Philbrick (builder)","architectural_style":"Gothic Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied as a private residence; described as well preserved and relatively unaltered, with most interior woodwork and flooring intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.167504-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79001878.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001878/47b93d4ca6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001878/47b93d4ca6-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lynnwood_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lynnwood_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989682","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138460331"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/licking-county/lynnwood-farm-79001878/"}
