It was also the home of Abraham Tappan, a surveyor for the Connecticut Land Company and an important figure in the early settlement of the Western Reserve.","narrative":"Built in 1827-1828 on South Ridge Road in Unionville, this large brick house combines Federal and Greek Revival design. The main block is unusual: its side walls have stepped gable ends with Palladian windows, and the front is a triangular gable with large modillions. The facade has Venetian-pattern openings set in blind elliptical arches, and the doorway has fluted molding, sunburst carving and an intricate transom. Greek Revival wings were added either in 1847 or after 1852, and a Neo-Classic veranda wraps the front and east sides. Inside are a curved staircase, seven fireplaces and thirteen rooms. The house was Judge Abraham Tappan's home. Tappan surveyed much of the Western Reserve for the Connecticut Land Company and served as teacher, sheriff, lawyer, associate judge and Unionville postmaster. The Warner family owned it from 1852 to 1922. It became a nursing home in 1954, and restoration was planned. It is recognized as one of Lake County's most notable houses.","period_of_significance":"1828; 1847/1852","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal and Greek Revival, with Neo-Classic revival additions","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as vacant and unoccupied; the form says the owners plan a major restoration to remove the 1954 nursing-home alterations.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.120929-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79001874.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001874/512fd9ecca-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001874/512fd9ecca-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"LeeG7144","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:7855_S_Ridge_Rd.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">LeeG7144</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:7855_S_Ridge_Rd.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989587","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138456810"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/lake-county/tappan-judge-abraham-house-79001874/"}
