The builder chose frame construction over the more common brick, which allowed whimsical millwork on the porches and cornice. It also reflects the early-settling Eubanks family of the Highland-Pike county area.","narrative":"Built around 1860 by Anthony Eubanks, this T-shaped frame house sits along State Route 41 in Highland County, just west of the Pike County line. Its walls are beveled siding, its hipped roof is tin, and the foundation is cut, coursed sandstone. Open porches with ornate spindled posts, hoodmolds over the windows, a paneled frieze and a double-bracketed cornice give it a highly decorative character. A second-story door opens onto the porch roof above the main entrance. The house is considered an excellent example of Victorian Italianate-influenced architecture in rural southern Ohio. Frame construction was chosen over the more common brick, which gave the builder freedom to develop the whimsical millwork. The Eubanks family came from Maryland by way of Kentucky and settled the area in 1807 on land bought from Nathaniel Massie. A log house had stood on the site earlier. In the late 1880s, two elderly women living here were robbed by the outlaw Bob Mackimie. No original outbuildings remain.","period_of_significance":"c. 1860","architect_builder":"Anthony Eubanks (builder)","architectural_style":"Victorian Italianate Influence","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as in excellent condition, occupied, and used as a private residence; no original outbuildings remain.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.760782-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/79001865.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001865/0224e0b38f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79001865/0224e0b38f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Aesopposea","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EubanksTytusHouse.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Aesopposea</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:EubanksTytusHouse.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989337","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138359585"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/highland-county/eubanks-tytus-house-79001865/"}
