It was also the home of the first church organized in the Hilliard area. Its fine stone and dark brick detailing and its largely unaltered condition add to its local significance.","narrative":"Wesley Chapel is a small brick church on Dublin Road southeast of Hilliard, set among trees and a cemetery on a curve of the Scioto-Darby Creek Road. Built in 1891 and dedicated on July 24, 1892, it was designed by C.A. Stribling of Columbus at a cost of $6,500. The building has a modified T plan, a rock-faced sandstone foundation, tall Gothic arched stained glass windows framed by dark brick bands, and a square corner tower with a pyramidal roof. Inside, the original pews and exposed beams survive, and the slate roof is original. The congregation was the first organized in the Hilliard area. Its first building, a frame church of 1830, was replaced by brick in 1854, then damaged by a storm in 1861. The present chapel is valued as a good rural example of early Gothic Revival elements, with a heavy, solid look and fine stone and dark brick detailing. It remains in use.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"C.A.
