Built in 1888 with funds from the Hanes family, it replaced a small frame church of 1826 that served a congregation first known as Hebron Church, founded about 1800. The rectangular building has a steep gable roof, pointed arch windows, bracketed eaves and an engaged five-stage tower topped by a wooden belfry and tin-shingled spire. Door and window sills are cut from leopardite, a locally quarried stone. Inside, the original pews and exposed chamfered roof trusses with sawnwork ornament survive. Graves surround the church, the oldest marked stone dating to 1821. The congregation moved into a new building in 1969 and the old church went unused. It was listed as a little-altered example of a vernacular Gothic and Italianate rural church and as a record of a small rural congregation's development in the nineteenth century.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular Gothic and Italianate","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Abandoned by the congregation in 1969 for a new building nearby; listed as unused, in fair condition, and slightly altered.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:57.605252-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/87/7199/47719987/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/79001701.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47719987","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_United_Methodist_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5508470"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/davie-county/fulton-united-methodist-church-79001701/"}
