It is also tied to Milton Wasserman, a prominent hops dealer in an industry important to Sonoma County, and to the later Poulsen family, local merchants.","narrative":"Built around 1915 at 930 Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa, this two-story shingle style bungaloid was the first house on its part of the John Isaac Parsons Addition. It has a long gabled front roof with a broad dormer of multi-paned casement windows, bracketed eaves, and a side facade with two broad gables, one over a porte-cochere containing a small room. Inside, simple trim, an open stair in the living room, built-in seats and a rear sun porch continue the design. The house keeps its original setting of a Monkey Puzzle tree, Alexander palms, a large cedar and valley oaks. The Monkey Puzzle is the only one in Santa Rosa and is a community landmark. Together, house and grounds express the California Arts and Crafts outlook. Milton Wasserman, who commissioned it, was a leading hops dealer in Santa Rosa from about 1910 to 1930. In 1923 it passed to the Poulsen family, local merchants.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1915)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Shingle style bungaloid; California Arts and Crafts","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied, privately owned; plans in the file show restoration of the house for office use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:31.570884-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/79000562.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79000562/3b55f92e38-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/79000562/3b55f92e38-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Sanfranman59","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wasserman_House,_930_Mendocino_Ave.,_Santa_Rosa,_CA_7-3-2010_1-37-13_PM.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanfranman59</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wasserman_House,_930_Mendocino_Ave.,_Santa_Rosa,_CA_7-3-2010_1-37-13_PM.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123862150","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q56567980"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/sonoma-county/wasserman-house-79000562/"}
