Its interior offers an opportunity to study the Victorian era. It has 2-1/2 stories on a sandstone foundation, an irregular plan, segmental arched windows with sandstone hoodmolds, and paired wood brackets with half-round windows in the frieze. The entrance carries the date 1880 and the owners' names in raised letters. Later changes include a rear addition, a west addition that predates 1892, and a glass-enclosed porch from the early 1900s. Inside, black walnut and chestnut woodwork survives, along with slate mantels painted to resemble marble and some original gas fixtures. Bordner, born in Stark County in 1829, grew his holdings from 75 acres to 247 acres and was known for breeding Shorthorn, Jersey and Guernsey cattle and Poland China hogs. The house is the only surviving building of his farm complex and now sits on a three-quarter acre lot among other residences. It was recognized as a fine local example of Italianate Victorian design.","period_of_significance":"1880","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate Victorian","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied and used as a private residence, in excellent condition; the interior is furnished with Victorian antiques.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.23805-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/78002191.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/78002191/45e2001cfd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/78002191/45e2001cfd-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Sanfranman59","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bordner_House_(Canton,_OH).JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanfranman59</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bordner_House_(Canton,_OH).JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71991355","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138680130"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/stark-county/bordner-house-78002191/"}
