It succeeded an 1813-14 mill, and the two mills served Deer Creek Township and Pickaway County for 156 years. Mills were among the first buildings erected in rural areas.","narrative":"Beside Deer Creek south of Williamsport, this wood-frame mill rises two and a half stories on a stone foundation and has a tin-covered gable roof. It was built in 1849 on the site of an earlier mill raised in 1813-14 by David Yates. William Bazore bought the mill in the 1880s, remodeled and enlarged it, installed new machinery and doubled its capacity. A 1913 flood damaged the building and its equipment. John Jones later leased and then purchased the mill, and it stayed in the Jones family and operated until the 1960s. A two-story shed-roofed addition dates from 1885, and original horizontal siding survives beneath the present metal siding. The 1 3/4 mile mill race remains, though overgrown. Supplementary letters describe two Leffel turbines installed in 1875 and 1894. The mill was listed for its local importance as an industrial site that served the township and county for 156 years.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition on the form, with the mill race intact but overgrown.
