It was built c. 1830 by Edwin Stanbery and moved to this site in 1928.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is an excellent example of Greek Revival architecture in Licking County. It is also a notable example of the small office type used by doctors, lawyers, surveyors and others in the nineteenth century. Its portico, pilasters and entrance give an elegant appearance despite its small size.","narrative":"This small Greek Revival office stands on the south side of the Newark-Granville Road, about a mile east of Granville, Ohio. Edwin Stanbery, a prominent Newark doctor, built it around 1830 as his office on North Third Street in Newark. Robbins Hunter bought it in 1928 and moved it to Granville. The wood-frame building measures roughly 15 by 25 feet, sits on a stone foundation and has a slate gable roof. A portico carried by four slender Doric columns runs across the three-bay facade, with a louvered fan in the pediment. Fluted pilasters flank the entrance and mark the corners. Inside, an arch with an Adamesque keystone is the notable feature. The building was nominated as an excellent Licking County example of Greek Revival design and as a representative of the small professional offices used by doctors, lawyers and surveyors in the nineteenth century. It remains nearly intact despite the move.","period_of_significance":"c. 1830","architect_builder":"Edwin Stanbery","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Checked as unoccupied and used as a private residence; the building remains nearly intact despite its move, and a later small portico was added on the west elevation.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:12.707925-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/78002100.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989690","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/licking-county/stanbery-edwin-office-78002100/"}
