A 19th-century owner, Joseph Willard Capron, kept a detailed journal about the property, the area and the family.","narrative":"Capron House is an 18th-century farmhouse at 42 North Avenue in Attleboro, Massachusetts. It is a 2½-story building with a side-gabled ridge roof, two dissimilar end chimneys, a one-story ell on the south side and cedar shingle siding over earlier clapboards. The six-bay east facade has a center entry with pilasters, a five-light transom and a small dentiled triangular pediment. Inside are wide pine floorboards, beaded corner posts and horizontal wainscoting. The chimneys were rebuilt in 1876, and a carriage shed attached to the ell was lost in the 1938 hurricane. Part of the front yard was taken for a trolley right-of-way in the early 20th century. The house was built by a child of Banfield Capron, one of Attleboro's original settlers, who gave each child a 200-acre farm. The Capron family owned the house for more than 200 years. Joseph Willard Capron, a 19th-century owner, kept a journal recording events on the property and nearby, including an inventory of timber, hay and trees.","period_of_significance":"1700-1799","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied, in excellent condition, and used as a private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:53.556585-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/14/7945/63794514/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/78000426.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/78000426/d3033b950d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/78000426/d3033b950d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Rberesford","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Capron_House,_Attleboro,_MA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Rberesford</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Capron_House,_Attleboro,_MA.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63794514","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capron_House_(Attleboro,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5036302"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/capron-house-78000426/"}
