The parish was organized in 1842 and the church was completed in 1843. It is the oldest church building in Fremont. As the congregation grew, the building changed. In 1872 it was lengthened by 14 feet and given high Gothic windows with stained glass, new pews, and a recessed chancel. In 1906 a square bell tower, a three-sided entrance bay and false buttresses were added. A two-story parish house was built to the north in 1956 and joined to the church by a cloister around an open courtyard. The chancel was moved back five feet in 1966. Much of the original interior remains. Rutherford B. Hayes and his law partner, Gen. Ralph Buckland, were church members.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899, 1900-","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late use of Gothic Revival elements","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied and in excellent condition, with the building altered; still used as a church.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.9965-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/77001085.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/77001085/3691c8a4cb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/77001085/3691c8a4cb-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:St._Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_in_Fremont.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:St._Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_in_Fremont.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71991224","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_(Fremont,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7591105"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/sandusky-county/st-pauls-episcopal-church-77001085/"}
