Its design blends Tudor Revival, Shingle Style plan and Wright-influenced elements.","narrative":"Perched on a half-acre lot at Day and Bullard Streets above Norwood center, this house began in 1859 as a 2½-story Italianate dwelling with a mansard roof and cupola. Between 1890 and 1893 it was rebuilt to its present form by architect J. William Beal for Fred Holland Day, who was remodeling his grandfather's house. The result has a brick first floor, stuccoed upper stories with half-timbering, leaded casement windows, a low porch and a porte cochere. Inside, a oak-paneled great hall with an inglenook forms the central space, and the dining room is paneled in Honduran mahogany. The design combines Tudor Revival ornament, a Shingle Style plan and Wright-like horizontal features. Day was known for his Keats collection, his photography, and his publishing firm Day and Copland, which issued works by Stephen Crane and Oscar Wilde. He also mentored Kahlil Gibran. The house now serves as a museum.","period_of_significance":"1859/1890-93","architect_builder":"J.
