It was built as part of an early park development program of patrol cabins for troops and civilian rangers, and it later passed to the National Park Service.","narrative":"Quinn Ranger Station is a small one-room cabin, thirteen by nineteen feet, set in dense pine and fir forest at the edge of Quinn Horse Camp Meadow in the southern part of Sequoia National Park. Its walls are split logs set vertically with the rounded faces outward, and it has a shake gable roof. Built in 1907 under Acting Superintendent Captain Kirby Walker, it was constructed mainly by park rangers, especially Harry Britten, who patrolled the southern park. It is the only surviving ranger station from the years when the U.S. Army administered the park, and it belongs to an early series of patrol cabins for troops and civilian rangers. The National Park Service took it over in 1917 and used it as a seasonal ranger station through the 1930s. After 1940 it became a patrol cabin for passing rangers, trail crews and snow survey parties, a role it still fills. A mid-century renovation added new sills, paneling and doors.","period_of_significance":"1900-1999","architect_builder":"Builder: Harry Britten (Ranger)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a patrol cabin for passing rangers, trail maintenance crews and winter snow survey parties; condition listed as good and altered.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:31.430376-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/77000118.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/77000118/b043bf0270-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/77000118/b043bf0270-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"National Park Service","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Quinn_Ranger_Station.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">National Park Service</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Quinn_Ranger_Station.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123862243","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinn_Ranger_Station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7272284"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/tulare-county/quinn-ranger-station-77000118/"}
