It is one of only thirteen Burr arch trusses left in Ohio and the only one in Washington County. It also replaced a hazardous ford for local farm families.","narrative":"Shinn Covered Bridge is a one-span wooden covered bridge over the west branch of Wolf Creek in Palmer Township, Washington County, Ohio. It has vertical high-boarded siding, a metal roof, straight portals and cut-stone abutments, and it is about 99 feet 10 inches long. Its structure is a 10-panel Burr truss with double six-ply laminated arches, a design patented by Theodore Burr in 1804. The nomination credits the bridge to carpenter Charles T. Shinn, who built it around 1886 after a near-drowning at the old ford on the family farm, though a 1986 update names Ebenezer B. Henderson as builder, paid $7.70 per lineal foot. It is listed as an excellent, little-changed example of the Burr truss, one of only thirteen left in Ohio and the only one in Washington County. The remote rural bridge has served local residents for about ninety years and has never been painted.","period_of_significance":"Historic; specific date about 1886","architect_builder":"Chas. T.
