Gilead, Ohio, built around 1870. Its plan follows a Greek cross, with gable roofs meeting at a small octagonal tower topped by a flagpole. The walls keep their original weatherboarding, the building has no windows, and each arm ends in a tall barn door made of narrow vertical boards. Metal standing-seam roofing covers both the gables and the tower. Fairgrounds land was first purchased in 1867, and several structures, including this one, were finished by 1871. Floral Hall is the only one of those original buildings that remains, and the only structure on the grounds that predates 1925. It has been used continuously for floral, vegetable and grain displays at the county fair. Local garden clubs have been refurbishing it. The building reflects the long importance of county fairs and amateur horticulture to rural residents of Morrow County.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used for floral, vegetable and grain displays at the county fair; the form lists it as occupied and in good condition, with a refurbishment planned for the 1976 fair.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.116302-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/76001503.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001503/c885eb8574-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001503/c885eb8574-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Floral_Hall_at_the_Morrow_County_Fairgrounds.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Floral_Hall_at_the_Morrow_County_Fairgrounds.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71990635","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138638801"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/morrow-county/floral-hall-76001503/"}
