It also reflects the commercial role of the inn as a stagecoach and freight stop on the Cincinnati-Lebanon-Springfield road, and later near the railroad station.","narrative":"Built around 1842 at 11006 Reading Road in Sharonville, Ohio, this three-story brick building served as an inn and tavern roughly twelve miles from central Cincinnati. Daniel Mills established it as traffic grew on the road linking Cincinnati, Lebanon and Springfield, completed in 1841. The first floor held dining rooms and a barroom for travelers and townspeople, while the upper floors provided overnight lodging. The Mills family kept the property until 1861, and it operated as a hotel with restaurant and bar until after 1912. Its popularity increased in the 1870s with the arrival of the railroad and a nearby station. In the 1920s and 30s the upper floors were converted to apartments, and later commercial uses occupied the ground floor. The exterior shows Greek Revival character, with a seven-bay facade, a low gable roof and parapet gables. Stone pilasters and a lintel with beer mug and grape motifs were added in the 1880s. The City of Sharonville later acquired the building and commissioned a preservation study.","period_of_significance":"c.1842","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as unoccupied and in good, altered condition; owned by the City of Sharonville, which acquired it in a street improvement program and is considering adaptive uses.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.593965-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/76001452.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001452/b07dff5239-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001452/b07dff5239-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:12MileHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:12MileHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989033","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_Mile_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7857627"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/twelve-mile-house-76001452/"}
