Although heavily damaged, it was restored, and its architectural detail and outstanding interior wood trim were preserved. It is described as one of the best examples of its era in the locality.","narrative":"Built around 1875 at 364 North King Street in Xenia, Ohio, this brick Victorian house is notable both for its craftsmanship and for surviving the tornado of April 3, 1974, which devastated the city's North King Street Victorian neighborhood. The irregular-plan house has a high brick foundation, a truncated hip roof, a decorative cornice with consoles and dentils, and metal-capped windows. Its entrance has a heavily carved hood on brackets and paired Gothic columns. Inside, the heavily moulded natural wood trim is described as magnificent, and a panelled music alcove is called unique. A ruby cut crystal window in the entrance hall survived the storm. Samuel N. Patterson, born in Washington, D.C. in 1818, was a carpenter, a Quaker, and a partner in a Xenia planing mill, and he was reputed to be an excellent designer and carver. Although badly damaged, the house was restored rather than demolished and remains one of the area's best examples of its era.","period_of_significance":"c. 1875","architect_builder":"Samuel N.
