It is also significant for its Tudoresque and Gothic Revival architecture and its location at a road intersection at the entrance to the Cleveland Heights development.","narrative":"Built in 1896 at 2380 Overlook Road in Cleveland Heights, this three-story sandstone house was designed by architect Alfred Hoyt Granger and is one of the original four residences on the street. Its broken-course, rock-faced sandstone has darkened almost to black, while the beaded mortar keeps a rose tint. Flattened-arch windows and doorways, hoodmolds, a copper bay window decorated with shields, and Gothic tracery give it Tudor and Gothic Revival character. Inside, a three-and-a-half story open stairwell, beamed and painted ceilings, and richly finished woodwork stand out. The house was the home of John Hartness Brown, a real estate dealer credited with conceiving University Circle and Euclid Heights, now Cleveland Heights, which was Cleveland's first planned upper-income development on the city's east side. Granger later moved to Chicago and became known for railway terminal design. The house also marks the entrance to the Cleveland Heights development.","period_of_significance":"1896","architect_builder":"Alfred Hoyt Granger","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival with Gothic elements","criteria":[],"status_note":null,"vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.20288-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/76001389.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001389/3723a02edf-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001389/3723a02edf-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Hartness_Brown_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_Hartness_Brown_House.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"12000897","name":"Euclid Heights Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/euclid-heights-historic-district-12000897/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987612","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137714044"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/cuyahoga-county/brown-john-hartness-house-76001389/"}
