Jeffreys on land his father deeded him in 1841.","why_significant":"The house combines the tripartite form, usually a Federal-era house type, with robust Greek Revival interior finish. It is the only tripartite example in Franklin County and one of few in the state outside the Warren-Halifax county group. It also reflects the life of William A. Jeffreys, a young lawyer and state senator who died in 1845.","narrative":"Southeast of Youngsville in Franklin County, this frame house was built about 1842 for William A. Jeffreys, a lawyer and Democratic state senator. It follows the tripartite plan: a two-story central block with its gable end facing front, flanked by one-story wings with gables set perpendicular to the main roof. The exterior is plain and vaguely Federal, while the interior has consistent Greek Revival finish, including molded and fluted architraves and mantels with Greek key detail. It is the only tripartite house in Franklin County and one of few in North Carolina outside the Warren-Halifax county group. Jeffreys received the land in 1841 and died in 1845 at age twenty-nine. His widow and sons stayed on the estate until about 1861, after which the house was only occasionally occupied. Most of the plantation was sold in 1892. A twentieth-century porch and later interior changes were made, and the house was later stabilized and furnished.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1842","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal and Greek Revival elements; tripartite house type","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as stabilized, furnished and in good condition at the time of nomination; some interior alterations and a twentieth-century porch.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:58.53442-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/53/7203/47720353/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/76001323.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47720353","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_A._Jeffreys_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18711589"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/franklin-county/jeffreys-william-a-house-76001323/"}
