It contains one of the oldest homes in the county and shows several architectural styles and functions over about 80 years, with no modern intrusions.","narrative":"Six buildings clustered around the crossing of Routes 5 and 237 form the core of Stafford, a small hamlet in Genesee County, New York. The group includes a former store that became the Town Hall, two private houses, a church, a former seminary and an Odd Fellows Hall. They date from about 1809 to 1890 and show Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival and vernacular design. The brick Marvin-Radley-Diefendorf house, begun about 1809, is among the earliest surviving homes in the county. The Radley-Worthington House, built about 1831 by the Rev. Richard Radley, is cited as an especially fine Greek Revival example. The site also holds historical weight: Stafford began in 1798 as a transit station for surveyor Joseph Ellicott of the Holland Land Company and was the first settlement on the Holland Purchase Tract. A park on one corner marks the site of the Hotel Stafford, built in 1804. The district was valued for its good preservation and lack of modern intrusions.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Federal and vernacular influences (listed as Eclectic, Gothic Revival)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in a good state of preservation; most buildings are still used for their original purposes, except the Town Hall (once a store) and the seminary, now a church parish house.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:39.502906-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/76001220.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001220/480c6b743f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001220/480c6b743f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sander_Store,_Stafford,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sander_Store,_Stafford,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317916","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stafford_Village_Four_Corners_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7596668"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/genesee-county/stafford-village-four-corners-historic-district-76001220/"}
