It was the home of early settler Gideon Frisbee and is now a historic house museum.","why_significant":"The house was built by Gideon Frisbee, a prosperous lumber merchant, land developer and judge who was among the first settlers in the area. The first Delaware County Board of Supervisors met there in 1797. It was also a substantial, stylish Federal house for a remote frontier area, with distinctive interior detailing and a 'Tavern Room' used for travelers and meetings.","narrative":"Built around 1798 near the East Branch of the Delaware River, this two-story clapboarded frame house on Route 10 northeast of Delhi was the home of Gideon Frisbee, a lumber merchant, land developer and judge who arrived in 1785 and became the area's largest landowner. In 1797 the first Delaware County Board of Supervisors met at his house, and as the most substantial residence nearby it served as a county and local meeting place until a courthouse was built in late 1799. The five-bay house combines delicate Federal detailing with a Georgian plan, including giant pilasters, a central hall and distinctive arched alcoves with built-in cabinets. A plainer 'Tavern Room' with its own exterior door reflects the custom of hosting travelers along a main road. The original dairy barn, built just before 1800, stands behind it. The county historical association now runs the property as a museum.","period_of_significance":"circa 1798","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Federal (plain Federal with a Georgian format; Georgian, Federal and Greek Revival elements noted on the data sheet)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied and in good condition; operated as a historic house museum by the Delaware County Historical Association.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:38.769041-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/76001211.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001211/42a3d42fd8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76001211/42a3d42fd8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Vonsky87","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Judge_Gideon_Frisbee_House,_Delhi,_NY.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Vonsky87</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Judge_Gideon_Frisbee_House,_Delhi,_NY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317215","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Gideon_Frisbee_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6302525"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/delaware-county/frisbee-judge-gideon-house-76001211/"}
