Its preservation was secured by local leaders in 1936 and later by a historical society. Architecturally, it is a late example of classical Greek Revival style, built only six years after the Civil War.","narrative":"Built in 1871 at East Broad and Cole Streets in Fairburn, this brick courthouse served as the seat of Campbell County, Georgia's 74th county, until the county merged into Fulton County on January 1, 1932. The contract went to Smith and Brother of Palmetto, and local workmen built it from local materials for about $10,674. Sixteen-inch brick walls, a two-story portico with four Tuscan columns, and curved wrought-iron stairs framing arched entrances give it a Greek Revival appearance. After the merger it faced demolition, but Fairburn leaders won a $5,000 federal grant in 1936 to turn it into a community center, library and recreation hall. A branch library operated there until 1970. Today the Old Campbell County Historical Society leads preservation, holds annual homecoming days, and is assembling a museum collection. The building is also valued as a late example of classical architecture in postwar Georgia.","period_of_significance":"1871","architect_builder":"Smith and Brother, contractor of Palmetto","architectural_style":"Greek Revival (temple form)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Maintained by Fulton County in fairly good repair; used as a community center and meeting place, with a museum proposed.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.329115-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/76000634.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000634/032e12b884-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000634/032e12b884-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Paul G.
