Also known as Brookwood Station.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is the last surviving passenger terminal in Atlanta, a city whose growth depended on the railroads. It is also significant architecturally as a work of the eminent Atlanta firm Hentz, Reid and Adler and as a good example of the \"through station\" concept applied to a suburban terminal.","narrative":"Brookwood Station is a compact brick railway station at Peachtree and Deering Roads in Atlanta. Opened just after midnight on March 17, 1918, it was designed by Hentz, Reid and Adler as an Italian Renaissance pavilion. The Peachtree facade has three bays divided by wide brick pilasters, each bay holding a Palladian-style entrance with Corinthian columns and a small canopy. A garden on the south side frames a statue of Southern Railway president Samuel Spencer. Behind the building, stairs lead from a concourse to a covered platform about 1,100 feet long, arranged so passengers never cross tracks. It was built as a suburban convenience station, not a main terminal. Once Terminal Station (demolished 1972) and Union Station (demolished 1973) were gone, it became the last passenger terminal in Atlanta. The nomination values its human scale and its intact appearance, and it was listed for its transportation role and its architecture.","period_of_significance":"1918","architect_builder":"Hentz, Reid, and Adler","architectural_style":"Italian Renaissance pavilion","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied and in use for transportation, in excellent condition and unaltered; still serves a few passenger trains, though its continued operation is described as questionable.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:41.010518-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/76000628.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000628/c0de78ae1c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000628/c0de78ae1c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"UW","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Atlanta_Amtrak_Station.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">UW</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Atlanta_Amtrak_Station.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208296","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peachtree_station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7157723"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/fulton-county/peachtree-southern-railway-station-76000628/"}
