The outpost is the only known surviving remnant of a series of Mission Dolores outposts on the San Francisco peninsula. The adobe is described as the finest example of its type in San Mateo County and is tied to Francisco Sanchez and the Mexican-American War.","narrative":"Sanchez Adobe Park in Pacifica protects three layers of California history on about five acres. The centerpiece is a two-story adobe, 22 by 64 feet, built by Francisco Sanchez between 1842 and 1846 with thick sun-dried brick walls on a local stone foundation. Nearby lie a Costanoan village site, thought to be Pruristac, and the foundations of a quadrangle used by Mission Dolores as an agricultural outpost from about 1786 to 1828. The outpost is the only known surviving example of its kind on the San Francisco peninsula, and the village is the only known ethnographic village in the region. Sanchez, a military officer and alcalde of San Francisco, was involved in a local skirmish with American forces in 1846. Later the adobe served as a ranch house, a hotel, a bootleg saloon and an artichoke shed. San Mateo County bought it in 1946 and restored it in 1953. It now operates as a park and museum.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Francisco Sanchez (owner-builder)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Restored in 1953 and open to the public without admission charge as a local history and house museum within a county park; described as in excellent condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:32.065167-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/76000525.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000525/0c7be11b9b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/76000525/0c7be11b9b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"BrokenSphere","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:S%C3%A1nchez_Adobe_exterior_1.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">BrokenSphere</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:S%C3%A1nchez_Adobe_exterior_1.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123861558","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A1nchez_Adobe_Park","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7665252"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/san-mateo-county/sanchez-adobe-park-76000525/"}
