It was manufactured by the King Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1890.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it an outstanding example of a nineteenth-century through truss bridge and one of the few of its kind still in general daily use in Texas. It also represents the King company, which was among the most prominent bridge suppliers in Texas from the 1870s to 1900 and supplied a major share of Fayette County's iron bridges.","narrative":"Cummins Creek Bridge carries a county road over Cummins Creek about two miles northwest of Round Top, Texas. Built in 1890, it is a single-span, pin-connected Pratt through truss, 110 feet long, with eight panels, timber flooring and concrete piers. Rollers at the east end allow for expansion. The King Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, manufactured it, and bridges of this kind were fabricated for general use, sold by regional agents, shipped to the site and assembled there. Fayette County records show that King, through its agent S. A. Oliver, was almost always the low bidder and supplied a large share of the county's iron bridges. After 1900 Oliver left to form his own firm in Houston, and King's importance in Texas declined. The bridge was recognized as an outstanding example of its type and as one of the few of its kind still in general daily use in Texas. Fayette County owns it.","period_of_significance":"1890","architect_builder":"King Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio; S. A.
