Page and built in 1906-07 by James Stewart and Company for the International & Great Northern Railroad.","why_significant":"It is one of the finest examples of Mission Revival style in Texas and one of only two remaining railroad stations in San Antonio. It is also one of the few surviving buildings designed by Harvey L. Page. It represents an important early 20th century transportation center for the city.","narrative":"Built in 1906-07 at Medina and Houston Streets in San Antonio, this railroad station served the International & Great Northern Railroad. Architect Harvey L. Page designed it and James Stewart and Company built it of tan brick on a steel frame. The plan is a Greek Cross, with a central dome and four barrel vaults radiating outward. Each facade carries a Mission-style parapet flanked by bell towers, and a stained glass window adapted from San Jose Mission looks out above the east entrance. Inside, eight Tuscan columns support the dome over a two-story waiting room. It is one of only two remaining railroad stations in San Antonio and one of the few surviving works by Page. Passenger traffic declined after World War II, platform canopies were removed in the late 1960s, and the station closed in 1970. By 1975 it stood vacant and badly decayed, with plans pending to adapt it for transportation use.","period_of_significance":"1906-07","architect_builder":"Harvey L.
