The house was first built in 1832 and enlarged by Liberty G. Raymond.","why_significant":"The property served as a coach tavern from 1860 to 1880 and was one of the most important institutions of Greene Township. Raymond kept horses and serviced coaches on the Cleveland to Meadville, Pennsylvania route, and Kenilworth was the midway point. The house and barn are tied to broad patterns of regional history in Northeastern Ohio.","narrative":"Built in 1832 at Kenilworth in Greene Township, Trumbull County, this frame house and its barn became a coach stop during the middle of the nineteenth century. Liberty G. Raymond, a contractor and builder with his own sawmill, bought the house and rebuilt it, adding a main block with a hipped roof and balustrade. He also enlarged the barn. In 1860 he contracted to keep horses and service coaches on the route from Cleveland to Meadville, Pennsylvania. Kenilworth lay midway, so coaches stopped here to change horses. Accounts differ on whether it was a full hotel or only a coach stop. The earlier one-and-a-half story west wing keeps its Greek Revival details, while the later block is Italianate. Inside, the original woodwork survives, and the southeast room served as the men's tavern. The barn has a center carriage aisle, horse stalls and a square cupola. The property is significant for its role in regional transportation and local commerce from 1860 to 1880.","period_of_significance":"1860-1880","architect_builder":"Liberty G.
