Harrison (a later state letter gives circa 1830). It was later moved to School Street in Newtown.","why_significant":"The house is a good example of Federal style architecture. Its elliptical fanlight is typical of the style, while the second-floor center doorway is unusual. It is also one of the earliest houses in the area, with links to the Armstrong family, who were early mill owners in Newtown.","narrative":"This two-story painted brick house stood at 3881 Newtown Road, near Newtown in Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio. Built in the early 19th century by P. Harrison, son-in-law of Nathaniel Armstrong, a wealthy grist mill owner and early Newtown resident, it is a Federal style building with a gable roof, interior end chimneys and a five-bay east facade laid in Flemish bond. An elliptical fanlight tops the main entrance, and an unusual second-floor doorway, which probably opened onto a since-removed balcony, sits above it. Inside, a center hall separates two rooms on each floor, each with a fireplace that has been paneled over. Wood-frame additions were made to the rear and south. It is considered one of the earliest houses in the area, though little is known of its first occupants. Tradition holds that it served around 1900 as a saloon and turkey stop for farmers heading to market. When documented it was a rooming house, and later papers record a move to School Street.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (early 19th Century)","architect_builder":"P. Harrison","architectural_style":"Federal Style","criteria":[],"status_note":"At the time of nomination (1974-75) it was used as a rooming house, in fair condition and altered, and was considered at risk from possible road widening. Later documents show it was moved to School Street, Newtown.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.047123-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/75001434.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001434/ba327b2392-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001434/ba327b2392-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"O.
