Since its completion in 1871 it has been continuously occupied by local government and was the center of village affairs, with the Council Chamber serving councilmen who were also prominent in county, state and national affairs. It replaced a council room and jail in the basement of the railroad depot.","narrative":"Completed in 1871, this one- and two-story painted American bond brick building at 305 East Sharon Avenue in Glendale, Ohio, was built as the village council house and jail. Harry Neill Wilson designed it and Charles S. Sundry built it, replacing a council room and jail that had been in the basement of the railroad depot. It has a gable roof, an interior end chimney with a corbeled cap, a limestone rubble foundation and limestone bands at the sill levels. The west entrance has a bracketed porch with a round arch opening. Local government has used the building continuously since it opened. Its Council Chamber, later used for the monthly Mayor's Court, was for decades the center of village affairs, and several councilmen who served there also held prominence in county, state and national matters. Alterations over time reflect changing functions and the police chiefs' families who lived on the premises. A 1974 village study led to a planned restoration removing the frame additions.","period_of_significance":"19th Century","architect_builder":"Designed by Harry Neill Wilson; built by Charles S. Sundry","architectural_style":"Italianate elements noted in the register write-up","criteria":[],"status_note":"Owned by the Village and in government use; in good condition but altered. Restoration was scheduled to begin in late 1974 to remove frame additions and later interior changes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.201373-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/75001425.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001425/a707ce4f16-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001425/a707ce4f16-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GlendalePolice.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GlendalePolice.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"76001447","name":"Glendale Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/glendale-historic-district-76001447/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989243","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glendale_Police_Station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5568377"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/glendale-police-station-75001425/"}
