It was the home of members of two of the area's earliest pioneer families, Samuel Davis and Benjamin Sells. Davis chose the site and supervised construction.","narrative":"Set among large trees above Hayden Run Creek, this small brick farmhouse near Dublin, Ohio, was begun in 1837 and finished in 1842. It is two stories tall and four bays wide, with a off-center doorway framed by sidelights and a transom, a gable roof with two end chimneys, and a wide brick frieze across the front and south sides. A one-story kitchen ell sits at the rear, and a second wing added in 1858 connected it to the hired man's quarters built in 1837. A Victorian porch was added in 1895. Benjamin Sells built the house for his wife, Elizabeth Davis. He was the grandson of Ludwick Sells, the first white settler in Washington Township, and she was the only daughter of Revolutionary War veteran Samuel Davis, who deeded 137 acres to the couple, selected the site and supervised construction. The house is valued as a well-kept local farmhouse tied to two pioneer families.","period_of_significance":"1837","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and occupied as a private residence; the 1895 Victorian porch was slated for removal at the time of nomination.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.359201-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/75001403.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001403/e000334b6e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001403/e000334b6e-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Benjamin_Sells_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Benjamin_Sells_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985097","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138318091"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/sells-benjamin-house-75001403/"}
