It was built for Anson Davis on a 137-acre farm deeded to him by his father, Samuel Davis, a Revolutionary War veteran. Samuel Davis planned houses for his children, and five survive in the area.","narrative":"Built in 1848, this two-story brick house on Hayden Run Road south of Dublin, Ohio, was constructed for Anson Davis on a 137-acre farm given to him by his father, Samuel Davis, a Revolutionary War veteran. Samuel Davis chose the site and planned the house, as he did for each of his children when they married; five of these houses still stand in the area. The rectangular main block has a gabled tin roof, stone lintels, six-over-six windows and a sidelit entrance with a transom. A 1-1/2 story ell was added in 1854, and dormers and bedroom conversions of an upstairs ballroom followed in 1926. Inside, a curving cherry-railed stair rises from the entry hall, and the parlour and library keep their original woodwork. The house was recognized as one of the area's most handsome brick homes, set among mature trees and pines, and a good example of local craftsmanship.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1848)","architect_builder":"Anson Davis (builder, per the later data sheet); Samuel Davis planned the house and selected the site","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as well cared for and well preserved; used as a private residence, with the exterior in good condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.354803-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/75001402.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001402/f83c387021-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001402/f83c387021-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Skorry","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anson_Davis_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Skorry</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anson_Davis_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985276","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anson_Davis_House_and_Springhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q104833792"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/davis-anson-house-75001402/"}
