It also has an unusual recessed blind arch on the original facade, now exposed inside the sanctuary. The form admits the many modern alterations might make it marginally significant, but its survival as the earliest public building outweighs this.","narrative":"Christ Episcopal Church is a medium-sized brick church at Park and Ohio Streets in Huron, Ohio. Its cornerstone was laid on March 7, 1839, for a congregation that first met in 1832. The original building was a simple rectangle with a gabled roof, a classical cornice and a tall recessed blind arch in the center of the front. That arch matches the one on the first Methodist church in Norwalk, built in 1830, which suggests the same builder. Later in the nineteenth century a Gothic entrance tower was added and the windows received pointed arches. In 1963 a modern parish house was built at the south end, the main entrance moved, and the blind arch was revealed inside as a backdrop to the altar. The interior also holds a nineteenth-century tracker-action pipe organ. After urban renewal clearance and the loss of the old town hall, this is the oldest public building left in Huron.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1839)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Adam-Greek Revival with Victorian Gothic and modern additions","criteria":[],"status_note":"Excellent condition, altered, on its original site; occupied and in religious use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.42396-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/75001379.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001379/1e24b58d11-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75001379/1e24b58d11-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"LeeG7144","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christ_Episcopal_Church_Huron_Ohio.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">LeeG7144</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christ_Episcopal_Church_Huron_Ohio.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988148","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_Episcopal_Church_(Huron,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5108865"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/erie-county/christ-episcopal-church-75001379/"}
