The earliest part dates from about 1839, with a brick addition about 1847.","why_significant":"The nomination argues that the house and its 19th-century outbuildings are examples of early vernacular farm structures in Clermont County and are important to local history. The site also held a trestle of the narrow gauge Cincinnati and Eastern Railroad, where a 1885 collapse killed three people.","narrative":"Set on Bradbury Road in Pierce Township, this brick farmhouse began as a small one-room house with a loft, probably built about 1839 from site-fired brick by John Gaskins, who came to Clermont County from Virginia in 1824. A two-story brick addition followed around 1847. The main block has a coursed fieldstone foundation, a gabled tin roof, a five-bay front and 2/2 windows. Remodeling in the late 1940s added a frame wing and altered the east section. A summer kitchen, smokehouse, well, barn, garage and workshop remain behind the house. The Gaskins family held the land until 1913. The property is valued as an early vernacular farm complex of the county. It also carries railroad history: in 1880 the narrow gauge Cincinnati and Eastern line crossed an 800-foot trestle here, and a passenger train accident in 1885 killed three people. The embankment is still visible.","period_of_significance":"c. 1839-1847 (19th Century)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good condition, altered and on its original site; used as a private residence and occupied.
