H. Whitfield for physician Dr. John H. Harris.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it a well-preserved Queen Anne house and one of the best examples of the style in Franklin County. Its irregular roofline, wraparound porch, corner tower, central gable, rich interior woodwork and dramatic stair hall give it a distinctive and vigorous character.","narrative":"Set on a hill among trees above a long sloping lawn in Franklinton, this two-story frame house shows the Queen Anne style in full. A tall, steep deck-on-hip roof covered in slate, projecting bays, gables, dormers, a three-story round corner tower and a wraparound porch with turned Doric posts create its irregular profile. Inside, dark carved woodwork, Neo-Classical mantels, sliding doors, original louvered blinds and a paneled stair hall rising through the tower give the rooms a rich finish. Dr. John H. Harris, a Franklinton physician, and his wife Lula planned the house before her sudden death in August 1902. He went ahead with construction, and local contractor J. H. Whitfield completed it by about 1904. Harris's descendants lived there for decades. It was listed as one of the best Queen Anne houses in Franklin County and remains a private residence.","period_of_significance":"1902-1904","architect_builder":"J. H.
