It is attributed to Samuel McIntire, Salem's best-known architect. The five-bay Federal mansion is laid in Flemish bond and topped by a hip roof with four chimneys and a brick modillion cornice. The south doorway has an elliptical fanlight and sidelights, and the west entrance has a Greek pediment with Tuscan columns. Inside, the woodwork is the main attraction: carved rope-motif cornices, a staircase with an unusual double design ending in volutes, and chimney pieces carved with a basket of fruit, sheaves of wheat and Chinese fretwork. The main south porch was removed in the 1960s, but otherwise the exterior is thought to be little altered. The house was later preserved by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities and, since 1955, has been maintained under a children's social service agency.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"attributed to Samuel McIntire","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied; used by a social service agency, with exterior changes in the 1960s including removal of the original entrance porch.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:53.718478-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/80/7946/63794680/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/75000304.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75000304/4a1455619d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/75000304/4a1455619d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SalemMA_ThomasMarchWoodbridgeHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SalemMA_ThomasMarchWoodbridgeHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63794680","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_March_Woodbridge_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7792170"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/woodbridge-thomas-march-house-75000304/"}
