It served as a stage stop on the route from Chicago to the Fox River settlements and became the center of a small community known as Stacy's Corners. It also shows simple Greek Revival design with an original front doorway.","narrative":"Stacy's Tavern is a two-story wood-frame inn at the corner of Main Street and Geneva Road in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Moses Stacy, who came from central New York and settled in the area in 1835, built it in 1846 at a junction of five roads and added a wing of nearly equal size within a year or so. The building rests on a fieldstone foundation, with timber framing, wood siding and handmade brick infill between the studs on the first floor. Its restrained cornice with returns and original front doorway show Greek Revival influence. The inn stood on the route from Chicago to the Fox River settlements and served settlers, farmers bound for market and stagecoaches that changed horses there. A village of shops and a meeting house grew around it, known as Stacy's Corners. The nomination notes it as probably the only old inn on its original site and in good condition in Du Page County. Later porches and additions were removed during restoration.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1846, with addition soon after)","architect_builder":"Moses Stacy (builder and owner)","architectural_style":"Greek Revival (described on the form as Classical Revival)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition marked good and altered; restoration to a mid-19th century country inn was in progress, with part of the building occupied by a tenant for protection.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:34.927078-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/8928/28892809/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/74002195.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74002195/3597089211-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74002195/3597089211-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08 (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stacy%27s_Tavern.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08 (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stacy%27s_Tavern.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28892809","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stacy%27s_Tavern","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7595994"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/dupage-county/stacys-tavern-74002195/"}
