Designed in the Second Renaissance Revival style, it rises from an arcaded podium of deeply jointed masonry, and its east facade has six Ionic columns spanning three stories beneath an attic and balustrade. Inside, a lobby rises through all four floors beneath a glazed dome on pendentives, with two grand staircases and vaulted corridors leading to offices and courtrooms. It is the county's third courthouse, following a Greek Revival building in Canfield from 1848 and a High Victorian Gothic one in Youngstown. Voters approved a $1,000,000 building proposal in 1906. The architects, Owsley and Boucherle, led the most important Youngstown firm of the period; Charles H. Owsley had designed the Y.M.C.A., Dollar Bank and many churches and schools. The building is listed for its architecture and its role in county government.","period_of_significance":"1910","architect_builder":"Owsley and Boucherle (architects)","architectural_style":"Second Renaissance Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Excellent condition, altered, on its original site; occupied and used for government purposes; interior redecorated since 1970.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:10.092297-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/74001569.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74001569/ec1f12bef6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74001569/ec1f12bef6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"BFDhD (talk)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mahoning_County_Courthouse_entrance.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">BFDhD (talk)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mahoning_County_Courthouse_entrance.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71990118","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q112663087"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/mahoning-county/mahoning-county-courthouse-74001569/"}
