It has stayed in the ownership of McCurdy's descendants for nearly two centuries. McCurdy was a blacksmith, wagonmaker and Continental Line officer in the Revolution.","narrative":"At the end of a dirt road near Concord stands the home place of Captain Archibald McCurdy, a farm complex of four early log buildings and a few later structures. The main building is a one-story double-pen log house. The older south pen has hewn logs, mud chinking and half-dovetailed corners, and the larger north pen was weatherboarded when built. Both pens share a central chimney and have wide fireplaces with pot hooks. Nearby are a log meat house, a story-and-a-half log storage house with corn cribs, and a two-story dog-trot barn. Family tradition dates the house to about 1773, though the earliest deed found is from 1783. McCurdy was a blacksmith and wagonmaker who rose to captain in the Revolution, served as a justice of the peace, and sat in the General Assembly. The property remained with his descendants for nearly two centuries, and the survival of the whole log farm group adds to its value.","period_of_significance":"18th Century","architect_builder":"Archibald McCurdy (family tradition)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as unoccupied, in fair condition, on its original site and altered; the north pen window is boarded over.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:58:57.82508-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/61/7193/47719361/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/74001329.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47719361","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCurdy_Log_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18154248"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/cabarrus-county/mccurdy-log-house-74001329/"}
