Baker and dated 1909.","why_significant":"The house is one of the large residences from the peak of Wright's activity before his European trip, closing his Oak Park period. Its two-story living room is one of only a handful of such Wright interiors that survive from this period. Good repair and careful stewardship make it a representative building of that period.","narrative":"Frank Lloyd Wright designed this two-story house at 507 Lake Avenue in Wilmette for Frank J. Baker in 1909. The plan was originally prepared in 1908 for William N. Guthrie of Sewanee, Tennessee, but that project collapsed, and Wright submitted the existing plans to Baker. The house has stucco walls over metal lath, low-pitched hip roofs, and neither basement nor attic. A T-shaped front living area is separated from a rear service area that serves as a substitute for a basement. The two-story living room has a tent-like pitched ceiling, a glass north wall, seven-foot bookcases, and a rose-colored Roman brick fireplace. Two bedrooms and a bath were added at the rear around 1920, and the side porches have been enclosed. The house belongs to a series of T-plan houses Wright designed in 1908-1909 and is valued as a well-kept example of his Oak Park period.","period_of_significance":"1909","architect_builder":"Frank Lloyd Wright","architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in excellent condition, occupied as a private residence; altered by enclosed porches and a rear addition of about 1920.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:34.396587-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/58/8921/28892158/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/74000759.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74000759/a6714509e8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/74000759/a6714509e8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Zol87 from Chicago, IL, USA","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frank_J._Baker_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Zol87 from Chicago, IL, USA</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Frank_J._Baker_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28892158","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_J._Baker_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5487422"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/cook-county/baker-frank-j-house-74000759/"}
