It went up when the area was still part of Medfield and consisted of a few scattered farms. The house is five bays wide and two deep, with a center chimney, 9/6 sash windows, a pedimented vestibule and a kitchen ell at the rear. It is described as a near-duplicate of the 1657 Cooper-Frost-Austin House in Cambridge. Indians partially burned it in 1676, and it was renovated to its original condition that year. Inside, seven fireplaces surround the central chimney, and original features include pine panelling, wide floorboards, exposed beams and 18th-century hardware. Later additions include an enclosed porch and a library ell from about 1940. Partridge, a farmer and clerk of the market, sold the property in 1704 to his son John Jr., a schoolmaster and church deacon. The house was valued for its early Colonial design and surviving original fabric.","period_of_significance":"17th century (c. 1659)","architect_builder":"John Partridge Sr.","architectural_style":"Colonial","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition listed as excellent and unaltered; the form says the owners carefully restored it, with preservation work in progress, and it is in use as a private residence.
