It notes the fine brickwork and handsome interior trim. It also records ties to Colonel Lane, the Frost racing and hunting stables, and Ambassador George C. McGhee, who added gardens.","narrative":"Farmer's Delight is a brick farmhouse in the countryside near Leithtown, Loudoun County, Virginia. The original block is two stories and five bays wide, measuring about 24 by 43 feet, and is laid in Flemish bond with a belt course, gauged brick flat arches and a cornice with scroll modillions and dentils. Inside, a central hall separates two rooms, and the parlor and dining room have elaborate chimney pieces. Colonel Joseph Lane bought the land in 1791 and built the house before 1803, when an insurance policy described it. The Leith family owned it from 1856 until 1919, when Henry W. Frost, Jr. acquired it; the Frosts kept racing and hunting stables and added wings. Ambassador George C. McGhee bought the property in 1948, renovated the house, enlarged the wings and laid out formal gardens, including a colonnaded grape arbor with twelve pairs of columns. The house was recognized for its architecture, brickwork and interior trim.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Colonel Joseph Lane (builder, prior to 1803); garden at rear designed by Boris Timchenko of Washington","architectural_style":"Federal period farmhouse, following Georgian plantation house models","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition of fabric described as excellent; in use as a private residence with central heating.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:56.851727-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/25/6816/41681625/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/73002033.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73002033/4afaf4e224-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73002033/4afaf4e224-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FARMER%27S_DELIGHT;_LOUDOUN_COUNTY,_VA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41681625","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmer%27s_Delight","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5435686"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/loudoun-county/farmers-delight-73002033/"}
