Its 1½-story kitchen wing is said to predate the main house and to be the earlier Herglerode house, which served as an Indian fort. The form also notes the interior stairway and strap hinges as outstanding features.","narrative":"Built about 1750 of dressed limestone with walls two feet thick, the Isaac Meier house is a two-and-a-half story country manor in Myerstown, Lebanon County. It has a three-bay front, six-over-six sash windows, and a central hall with a stairway whose hand-carved railing has spindles. A 1½-story kitchen wing on the east end, twenty feet square, contains a fireplace twelve feet wide and is thought to predate the main house. Its upper rooms are said to have been quarters for enslaved household workers. Isaac Meier bought land from Valentine Herglerode in the 1750s, sold lots and laid out a town, and by 1768 the settlement had been renamed Myerstown. Meier served as magistrate and Overseer of the Poor and donated land for the area's first schoolhouse. He was shot and killed in a Myerstown tavern in 1770 and is buried in the Old Tulpehocken Reformed Graveyard nearby.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1750","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Country manor style","criteria":[],"status_note":"Altered; original site; condition marked fair.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:30.589997-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/73001639.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001639/16fe522a8b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001639/16fe522a8b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"JoeRed","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Meier_Hmestead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">JoeRed</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isaac_Meier_Hmestead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71996662","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Meier_Homestead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6076783"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/lebanon-county/meier-isaac-homestead-73001639/"}
