The nomination describes it as representative of a characteristic area house type. Its original interior woodwork, panelling, and built-in cupboard are noted as largely unaltered.","narrative":"Built of tan random fieldstone with darker red corner quoins in the mid-eighteenth century, the house in Warwick Township, Chester County, is two and a half stories tall, five bays wide and two bays deep, with a gable roof and a chimney at each gable end. Philip Rogers probably built the original house, and he owned the property from 1735 until 1757. Rogers was among the earliest settlers in the area and appears on the 1722 tax list for East Nantmeal Township, which was divided in 1842 to form Warwick Township. A fieldstone kitchen wing was added to the east end, probably before 1825. The interior retains a center hall plan, fine woodwork, round-turned balusters, Philadelphia newel posts and original fireplace panelling. An original built-in cupboard with butterfly shelves and blown glass panes is particularly notable. The house is significant for its early date, its documented history and its survival of much of its original appearance.","period_of_significance":"c. 1735-1757","architect_builder":"Philip Rogers (builder of the original house, per the statement of significance)","architectural_style":null,"criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The present owners have made mainly restorative changes, including removing exposed plumbing and wallpaper and replacing windows with nine-on-six light units.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:29.675501-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/73001617.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001617/932a2eeba9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001617/932a2eeba9-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rogers_House_Chesco.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rogers_House_Chesco.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71998522","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Rogers_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7184304"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/chester-county/rogers-philip-house-73001617/"}
