It also records the county seat's move to Bryan in 1840 and the building's design by E.O. Fallis and Company of Toledo. It remains the seat of county government.","narrative":"Williams County Courthouse in Bryan, Ohio, is a four-story Romanesque Revival building of pressed brick and Berea stone, completed in 1891 at a cost of $250,000. It stands on Court Square, land donated in 1840 by John A. Bryan for the original courthouse, after the county seat moved from Defiance to Bryan. The square plan has eight towers, four small and decorative and four larger, two round and two square, and a tall central tower with a four-faced striking clock rises above a roof of slate and red tile. County commissioners ordered the old courthouse razed in 1887 and hired E.O. Fallis and Company of Toledo to prepare the designs. Malone Brothers and Earhart built it, and the cornerstone was laid in 1889. The exterior is unchanged, though elevators, a lowered courtroom ceiling and a finished fourth floor are later interior changes. It is valued as an excellent example of Romanesque Revival architecture and still serves as the county seat of government.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1890)","architect_builder":"E.O.
