It also houses the congregation that was the first to organize in the lower Maumee Valley, in 1820.","narrative":"This small frame church at 200 East Broadway in Maumee was built in 1836-37 and is said to have cost $600. It is Greek Revival in style, with a symmetrical three-bay front, a pedimented porch with square columns and pilasters, a fan window in the gable, and a square tower topped by a wood spire. The bell was cast in Albany, New York, in 1835. The congregation was organized on January 9, 1820, and was the first church to organize in the lower Maumee Valley. It had eleven charter members. The church sits on lots set aside for religious purposes when Maumee City was laid out in 1818, on ground once held by Indians and later the site of a British battery in the War of 1812. The building was restored in 1922 and rededicated in 1923, a Parish House was added in 1951, and a new sanctuary in 1969 turned the original church into a chapel. It is significant as fine Greek Revival architecture and as the earliest church building in the area.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific date 1837)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival with strong influence from early 18th-century English church architecture","criteria":[],"status_note":"Excellent condition, altered, on its original site, and occupied for religious use.
