Auburn, this two-story frame house in Cincinnati was begun around 1819 by Gorham A. Worth, who arrived in the city in 1817 to serve as cashier of the newly established United States Branch Bank. Its center section is Federal in style, with a five-bay porch on thin Tuscan columns and an entrance framed by sidelights and an elliptical fanlight. Two hipped-roof wings with dormers were added before 1868. The house was among the first built in Mt. Auburn, the city's first suburb. Later owners included Robert McGregor, who entertained the Prince of Wales in 1860, and Jacob Krouse, whose family lived there from 1871 to 1906 and who hosted young William Howard Taft. Guy Ward Mallon, a figure in Cincinnati's City Charter and Ohio's Australian ballot system, also lived there. A regional preservation agency acquired the house in 1965, when it was the oldest known continually used residence in the city.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (specific dates 1819 and 1860's)","architect_builder":"Gorham A.
