It has served continuously as a public meeting place and later showed good adaptive use as a theater. The nomination hoped listing would save it from possible demolition under a local master plan.","narrative":"Built of brick around 1875 on the northeast corner of Public Square, Brecksville's old Town Hall is a two-story building on a rock-faced stone foundation measuring roughly sixty-five by forty feet. Italianate details include round-arched windows with stone sills and headers, paired wooden brackets under the eaves, a fanlight over the double front doors, and an open octagonal cupola with small columns, a metal dome and iron cresting. Inside are a ground floor and one large upstairs room, largely unadorned and little altered. The hall first housed city offices and council meetings. As the town grew, it became too small for government use, and in 1941 part of it went to the Brecksville Little Theater, which shares it with the city. A new municipal building reduced its importance, and a local master plan called for replacing it. The nomination argued for preserving it as an example of its type and of adaptive reuse.","period_of_significance":"19th Century (built circa 1875)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate detailing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition and in good repair, shared by the city and the Brecksville Little Theater since 1941, but at some risk of being razed because a new municipal building has reduced its role.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:09.072327-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/73001404.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001404/f8715c3ad7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/73001404/f8715c3ad7-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brecksville_Town_Hall.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brecksville_Town_Hall.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71987424","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137641752"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/cuyahoga-county/brecksville-town-hall-73001404/"}
